About Us
Founded by Jacques Coetzee in 2014, Wild Dog 4×4 began as a small family business driven by a passion for off-road recovery, innovation, and building products that solve real challenges in the industry. What started with a vision to create reliable recovery solutions has grown into a brand recognized for pushing boundaries and developing products specifically designed for the off-road community, and we are proud that 99% of our gear are south african manufactured.
Over the past 11 years, we have continuously focused on innovation and quality. We proudly created South Africa’s first soft shackle and have continued manufacturing and improving our recovery solutions ever since. Our goal has always been simple: build products that are practical, dependable, and designed by people who understand the realities of vehicle recovery and overlanding.
Our commitment to building a trusted brand also led us to establish and protect our identity. The WILD DOG 4X4® name became a registered trademark application in 2016 and was officially accepted and registered in 2018, reinforcing our dedication to creating a recognized and respected name within the off-road industry.
Throughout our journey, we have achieved several important milestones:
- Created South Africa’s first soft shackle in 2015, and have continued manufacturing and improving our products for the past 12 years
- 2016 – Introduced GWM-specific recovery kits designed specifically for the needs of GWM owners. (the correct gear for the specific vehicle)
- 2018 – We designed and manufactured the world’s first all-new aluminium snatch block specifically for synthetic rope.
- 2019 – We recognised the importance of using a bridle in safe vehicle recovery and implemented it into our advanced recovery kits. We have invested significant time and effort into educating customers on the importance and correct use of a recovery bridle.
- 2019 – We established our sister company, Wild Dog Outdoor, specialising in premium camping storm straps. With our extensive background in webbing and manufacturing, we developed the ultimate all-in-one storm strap kits designed to suit everything from vehicle awnings to full-scale caravan setups.
- 2022 – Became the world’s first to create a dedicated Jimny-specific recovery kit.
- Developed one of the most comprehensive ranges of recovery kits available on the market.
- 2025 – Became the world’s first to introduce additional safety straps to our safety damper, helping raise recovery safety standards.
- 2025 – We developed the Tension Strap, featuring 25mm webbing integrated with a heavy-duty compression spring and paired with either a cam buckle or ratchet system. Designed specifically for securing equipment and overlanding gear on rough terrain, the spring absorbs movement and vibration to keep items stable and secure during travel
- 2026 – Created the ultimate recovery kit specifically designed for Overlanding in Africa.
Our products have also reached international markets, with exports into Europe before COVID. As we move forward, we believe this is only the beginning of the next chapter, and we are excited to once again expand our horizons and reach new markets around the world.
